The Globes – Burning Man

  • Project Aikido, in conjunction with The World Reimagined, brought an exhibition of 8 unique globes to Burning Man 2024, Black Rock City, Nevada.

  • Each globe measures 5.5 feet tall and 4.6 feet in diameter. The 8 sculptural globes were arranged in a circular formation on the playa, each individually curated by a different artist with its own distinct visual identity — ranging from richly painted surfaces to reflective and textured finishes.

  • The World Reimagined is built on the belief in the transformative power of art: to inspire, to move, and to open our imagination to new possibilities. Each globe embodies one of The World Reimagined’s themes — spanning Mother Africa, The Reality of Being Enslaved, Abolition & Emancipation, Still We Rise, and Reimagine the Future, among others — with each artwork honouring, remembering, and reflecting on the history, legacy, and future of the Transatlantic Trade in Enslaved Africans.
